Who is a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) ?

An Indian living abroad is known as Non-Resident Indian (NRI). An Indian Citizen who is abroad for employment, to carry on a business, or for any other purpose for an uncertain period.

Under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), a person ‘resident in India’ includes a person residing here for more than 182 days during the course of the preceding financial year
